A provincial Adam style chair in timeworn paint with exaggerated block toes, c.1780
A rather special and attractive 18th century provincial chair from the Adam period in timeworn paint. The block toes are somewhat exaggerated and larger than normal, and unusually are on all feet rather than just the front two. the chair has had some repairs and the seat appears have been recovered in the 19th century. The decorated splat is in deliciously time worn paint. The chair is solid and comfortable and was probably a bespoke piece due to the unusual feet.
The chair has a fantastic look and 'sits well' as the old trade saying goes. We feel this is rather a 'one off' piece. The height has not been reduced over the years.
Measuring: height to seat 47 cm, width 58 cm, height to back 103 cm, depth 49 cm
English, c. 1780
